Part
1:
California or Bust!
Steve and Amy hop on a plane for their first trip to California.
After Steve helped rebuild INCM.org, it was time to staff
an Internet cafe area at a conference. |
| |
|
| |
Part
2:
Rain
"It's pretty raining and wet here in California... somewhat
cool... probably in the 50s. I guess they've been getting
an abnormal amount of rain over the past few weeks." |
| |
|
| |
Part
3:
Jack in the Box
"It's a chain, but if falls under the 'Fazoli's Exemption.'
Our dining experience wasn't that great. In fact, the
place was a dump. Not recommended." |
| |
|
| |
Part
4:
Hip Hip Hooray
"I just got to meet Mary Rice Hopkins, who is here as
a workshop presenter and vendor. She wrote The Hippo
Song that we used pretty heavily at camp over the
years." |
| |
|
| |
Part
5:
Sucky transit systems
"LA has transit, Anaheim has transit, but they don't really
connect with each other, and we sort of wanted to explore
a little in Hollywood or whatnot." |
| |
|
| |
Part
6:
About the Disneyland Resort
"When Disneyland was expanded in 2001 to become the Disneyland
Resort, they desired to follow the successful model of
multiple theme parks = multiple night stay." |
| |
|
| |
Part
7:
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
"Amy and I grabbed dinner last night at a place right
near Anaheim Stadium where the Angels play. Our cabbie
was irate about the name change." It's lawsuit time! |
| |
|
| |
Part
8:
15 Computers
The eZone opens! "We have 15 computers here provided by
LifeWay, a large Nashville-based publisher which also
runs kids camps called Crosspoint and Centri-Kid." |
| |
|
| |
Part
9:
Balboa Island
"We explored Balboa Island, which for no other reason
was interesting because it's where part of one of my favorite
shows, Arrested Development, fictionally takes
place." |
| |
|
| |
Part
10:
Music for kids
"The camp, in their infinite wisdom, decided to simply
cancel this age group's session. Instead, they think it's
a good idea to run a week of camp combining 2-7th graders." |
| |
|
| |
Part
11:
Dinner at JT Schmid's
"I previously noted that there were a lot of palm trees
around the resort area. It turns out that those trees
cost $10,000 a piece, all imported from Florida." |
| |
|
| |
Part
12:
Steamers Jazz Club & Cafe
"We plotted to take the local bus system to the eatery.
So we hopped the Harbor Blvd. bus run by OCTA (I have
no clue how they pronounce this... is it "octa" or "oh
- see - tea - a"?)." |
| |
|
| |
Part
13:
Blame Ei$ner
"We are here at Disneyland... Tomorrowland to be exact.
And we are experiencing probably the worst Disney attraction
known to man... Innoventions. What a piece of crap." |
| |
|
| |
Part
14:
Where's the drainage?
"The rain continued all day on Friday as well. I guess
reports said that this was the most rain that Southern
California had ever received over a 15-day period." |
| |
|
| |
Part
15:
On to Disneyland!
"Karl and Sara treated us to a trip to Disneyland, along
with another couple associated with Kidology. And of course,
it was raining. To me, I didn't really care." |
| |
|
| |
Part
16:
This ain't Florida
"Indiana Jones Adventure: Many consider this the last
'great' ride that Disney built in California before they
started being cheap with their attractions" |
| |
|
| |
Part
17:
It was better as a parking lot
"I wanted my voice to be heard, as I know complaints often
factor into budgets and funding. And we basically told
the lady there... this park sucks." |
| |
|
| |
Part
18:
Meeting Jim Belushi
"She took us down some back steps and as we were walking
around to the set, we ran into Jim. He encouraged us to
come onto the set and we would take some pictures." |
